The women at the Independent Spirit Awards looked beautiful but kept things more casual with their shorter dresses for the afternoon event. Anne Hathaway shined in her off-white dress with feminine details as many other actresses showed off their flirty styles. Cameron Diaz rocked the stripes, as did Michelle Williams in her sleeveless dress with pockets. Mary-Kate stood out with her shoulder pads and long sleeves and the award-winning Penelope Cruz - who had a run in with ex Tom Cruise the night before - look perfect in a frilly hemmed brown dress.

Meanwhile, the men ranged from jeans to suits, but still looked handsome as usual. James Franco didn't manage to shave for the event but wore his pinstripes proudly. Aaron Eckhart, Emile Hirsch and Blair Underwood sported the denim look while Mickey Rourke had fun running around the blue carpet chatting with everyone. Charlize Theron joined forces with Diane Lane and Josh Brolin in LA on Thursday night for the launch of the BRANDAID Foundation, which will send money to support Haitian artists. Current Oscar nominee Josh struck a few poses with past winner Charlize, while two of the Best Supporting Actress Nominees, Taraji P. Henson and Marisa Tomei, posed for photos and made their way around the room. We're sure to see lots more of Marisa, Taraji and Josh as the weekend's award festivities continue, but hopefully Charlize will also show up on another red carpet in one of her signature knockout gowns.

Ben Affleck took the stage at the Children Mending Hearts Gala at the House of Blues in LA last night to present the year's humanitarian award to Anderson Cooper. Before handing the mic over to Cooper, Ben spoke about the Congo, a cause close to his heart and about which he wrote for Time magazine this week. When Ben stepped off the stage, he found a special surprise waiting back at his seat - Jennifer Garner snuck in to watch him and give him kisses at the table before ducking out 20 minutes later. The Madden brothers also came out for the good cause as did Marisa Tomei, who has an exciting weekend ahead as an Oscar Nominee.

A sexy sweater-vest wearing Ryan Reynolds stopped by TRL yesterday along with his co-stars Abigail Breslin and Elizabeth Banks to promote Definitely, Maybe. The two ladies seem like pretty good substitute Valentine's Day dates since Scarlett was busy overseas. In this movie he gets to romance three gorgeous women, which was more exciting than his role across from Julia Roberts in Fireflies in the Garden. He said,

“I was so excited until I found out the scenes I have with her are when she’s playing my mother. I was like, 'Couldn't we have a hot romance instead?' It's so sad. I have to tell my friends that I'm getting to act with the old Julia Roberts."

We know Ryan has had a thing for older ladies in the past (cough Alanis cough) so we can understand his disappointment. Plus Ryan realized he may have sounded a bit harsh and he attempted to redeem himself afterwards by calling Julia a class act. Luckily, Julia has some of the sexiest movie scenes ever under her belt, even if they aren't with hot Ryan.

Lucky boy Ryan Reynolds got to meet up with all his leading ladies last night at the NYC premiere of Definitely, Maybe. Isla Fisher looked H-O-T in her LBD without her fiance by her side while Abigail Breslin showed off a cute little dress of her own. As for dates, Ryan's girl Scarlett is in town promoting her movie too but the two aren't quite ready to go red carpet public just yet. They're not headed toward marriage just yet and Ryan recently spoke about his movie's off-kilter subject matter. He said, "I really see it as a love letter to broken families. It's subject matter that hasn't been explored in this way before. Divorce is so pervasive. It's exciting to see it on the big screen in a way that is charming and accessible." Probably a more positive quote about divorce than usual, but I think this movie looks totally sweet — perfect post Valentine's Day romantic swoon-worthy flick.
