NEW YORK (Reuters) - "Phantom of the Opera," "Mamma Mia!"
and "Legally Blonde" may be off the menu as a strike by
Broadway stagehands enters its 12th day. So how about "Crime
and Punishment?" Talks between striking stagehands and theater owners and
producers broke down on Sunday and no new negotiations are
scheduled, ensuring that some 25 productions will remain dark.
In the meantime, visitors to New York have been venturing into
the less familiar territory known as Off Broadway.
"We have definitely seen a boost in ticket sales since the
strike began," said Kelly Davis, a spokeswoman for the 59E59
theater, where a 90-minute adaptation of the Fyodor Dostoevsky
novel has been playing to packed houses.
With eight exceptions -- including "Young Frankenstein,"
the Disney musical "Mary Poppins" and a revival of George
Bernard Shaw's "Pygmalion" starring Claire Danes -- most
Broadway shows are shuttered.
Theaters are refunding tickets and tourists are scrambling
to change...
Glamour's Women of the Year 2007 came together at NYC's Lincoln Center last night to celebrate each other. Jennifer Connelly's dress was a fabulous color while the first ever Girl of the Year, Abigail Breslin's looked perfectly appropriate. Mariah performed for the big event while some of TV's finest doctors, Taye and Eric Dane (and Chief), were among the men out to honor all these fabulous ladies. The issue's cover girlJennifer Garner celebrated her night off from Broadway and pulled off a dress that most women could not, but didn't walk the red carpet with Ben. In the magazine Jennifer talks about why that is. She said:
We’ve worked really hard not to be one of those couples who are constantly in the limelight. In the past we’ve both been the kind of people who go along with things—if you’re supposed to be photographed together, you don’t question it. But how does that help your relationship? So now we refuse to walk the red carpet together: It’s a way of not condoning the attention. Plus, it just feels silly to be in that situation with him: Ben was nominated for a Golden Globe [for 2006’s Hollywoodland]. I remember being photographed next to him and thinking, This is ridiculous. You’re not some actor; you’re my husband.
While I fully appreciate her persepective, I can admit that I would love to see them walk together every once in a while. Even (or as it turns out, especially) without, they're certainly one of the cutest and most real marriages in Hollywood. A big big congrats to all the wonderful and inspiring women both winning the honors and attending the event last night. Claps, claps.
Claire Danes made her big Broadway debut last night at the opening of Pygmalion. She had lots of fans in the audience to cheer her on, including her boyfriend Hugh Dancy, plus Zac Posen, Blythe Danner and Chloe Sevigny — not a bad turnout. Unfortunately for Claire, her performance is only getting mixed reviews. On the bright side, this is her first attempt at theater, so maybe she'll get another chance to wow the critics in the future.
Check out Claire looking modest on stage and showing off her sexy backless dress at the after party. Plus, there are lots more pics from opening night including Rosie Perez, Mamie Gummer and Eric Murdoch so just

Hollywood's loveliest ladies were strutting their stuff at the Costume Institute Gala last night, but some of them missed the mark. While we love weighing in on everyone's looks, some of them are definite fashion disasters! What do you think - who was the worst dressed last night?

Just when we were least expecting it, here is the "Poiret: King of Fashion" Costume Institute Gala at The Metropolitan Museum of Art, which just happens to be the most celeb-packed red carpet we've seen since The Oscars. Seriously, how did all these folks get to NYC so quickly? Here are some of the ladies, but check out the gallery below to get the full splendor. In general, the women looked smashing on the arms of their dates (if they had one) -- be they boyfriends, husbands, or esteemed older gentlemen/designers (like Ashley Olsen on the arm of Christian Louboutin himself). Anna Wintour must have been a happy hostess.
I must say that I am especially proud of my Olsens. Ashley looks hot hot hot, but MK is holding her own, too. On the other side of the spectrum, Kirsten and Kate Bosworth apparently got the wrong memo and thought it was an actual costume party. Also, is Jennifer Garner 39 feet tall? Who knew! Finally, Jessica Simpson is a little overtly sexy for my taste, but oh well. Oh, to be a fly on the wall of this party! What do you think of all the ladies fabulous looks?

For the first 25 seconds of this new Gap commercial starring Claire Danes and Patrick Wilson (Phantom of the Opera, Little Children, does that help?), I was wondering about and slightly annoyed by Claire's lack of pants. Then, all of a sudden, it made sense. It may not be the ad that helped bring back swing dancing, but it's pretty darn cute.
