Paul McDermott & Fiona Horne : 'Shut Up/Kiss Me' - music

A live performance of the 1998 single 'Shut Up/Kiss Me' by Paul McDermott & Fiona Horne.

Fiona was the lead singer of the band DEF FX and Australia's best known and sexiest witch during the 1990s.

Paul McDermott started out in the Canberra group the Doug Anthony All Stars (DAAS).

I actually saw DAAS busking in Garema Place in central Canberra back in the early 80s. It was just before Christmas and it was funny to see all the people crowded around religious plays and nativity scenes suddenly turn their backs on these to watch the All Stars. Even back them you could tell they were something special.

Lyrics:

I was caught by your smile under a blushing moon,
You were the only one left there.
Words poured like wine over an open wound,
You were the only one left there.
With sky-borne blue-grey eyes,
Sky-borne blue-grey eyes.

Pale light falls over a broken bed,
You were the only one left there.
Cold hands in mine, lips bruised and black,
You were the only one left there.
With sky-borne blue-grey eyes,
Sky-borne blue grey eyes.

Shut up and kiss me now, kiss me now, kiss me now,
I have been patient my patience is gone.
Shut up and kiss me now, kiss me now, kiss me now,
All of my vision has blurred into one.
Just Shut up, just shut up, just shut up and kiss me now.

The cool of the night fell on us like a ghost,
You were the only one left there.
I wept as a child, wept for the life I'd lost,
You were the only one left there.
With sky-borne blue-grey eyes,
Sky-borne blue-grey eyes (Shut up and kiss me now, kiss me now, kiss me),
Sky-borne blue-grey eyes (Shut up and kiss me now, kiss me now, kiss me),
Sky borne blue-grey eyes.

Shut up and kiss me now, kiss me now, kiss me now,
I have been patient my patience is gone.
Shut up and kiss me now, kiss me now, kiss me now,
All of my vision has blurred into one.
Just Shut up, just shut up, just shut up and kiss me,
Just Shut up, just shut up, just shut up and kiss me,
Just Shut up, just shut up, just shut up and kiss me now.

KIM SALMON and THE SURREALISTS "I Won't Tell"

Video for Kim Salmon & The Surrealists 1997 single, "I Won't Tell", lead track off the "You Gotta Let Me Do My Thing" album .

Directed by Caroline Kennedy.
Produced by No Name films.

Shot on black & white Super 8, it stars Fiona Horne of DefFX (as "the Torso") and features glimpses of the '97 lineup of Kim Salmon (vocal/guitar), Stu Thomas (bass) & Greg Bainbridge (drums).

The single came out as a green vinyl 7-inch on Guilt Free Records, Kim Salmon's own label and was the first appearance of horns in The Surrealists' music.

During the shooting, $5 was shelled out to move an irate drunk guy with a dog, who wanted to have a BBQ and refused to do it somewhere else..

The underpants featured on-screen were duly signed at the end of filming..

"X-Static" by Ozguitar

Music from Def FX. Graphics from Final Fantasy X-2. No subtitles. Simple - but it works. Lucky.

Def FX were a great live Aussie band - especially around the period of their "Light Speed Collision" album. A killer mix of rock and samples, with a young Fiona Horne going apesh*t on stage.

Then she grew up and decided to become a celebrity "witch" (a name usually reserved for other people) - a la Sabrina. Oh, well.

The "Final Fantasy" graphics, amongst other things, just shows how different professional CGI is to our supposed cutting-edge 3D games.
