KCK Family Gets 'Extreme Home Makeover' News
Daniel Gilyeat and his family are getting a renovated home from ABC's popular show, "Extreme Makeover: Home Edition."
Gilyeat is a father and Marine who served two tours in Iraq. On his second tour, which he volunteered for, he was injured on a mission when a bomb struck his vehicle.
Gilyeat suffered serious injuries and lost his left leg above the knee. In addition, his marriage ended and he suddenly became a single father. But 25 days after losing his leg, Gilyeat was up and walking with a prosthetic leg and inspiring other wounded soldiers by visiting them in hospitals and speaking with their families.
Household chores were difficult for Gilyeat because the home was not handicap-accessible. The floors were uneven and the doors were too small to get through.
Ty Pennington and designers Paige Hemmis, Eduardo Xol, John Littlefield and Rib Hillis, builder Kevin Green, and hundreds of volunteers and workers will rebuild the family's home in just seven days. While work on the home is being done, the Gilyeat family will vacation in Los Angeles.

'Makeover' Crews Fight Delays, Cold Temps
Crews with ABC's "Extreme Makeover: Home Edition" are finishing up the walls and the trusses at Daniel Gilyeat's home.
The two-bedroom home was demolished on Monday with the help of hundreds of volunteers. The foundation was set by Tuesday morning and crews started putting up the frame at noon. By 3:30 p.m., workers had started assembling the roof.
Construction will continue for 24 hours a day until the new home is revealed on Saturday. Everything is planned out in 15-minute increments.
KMBC's Chris Nagus reported that the crew started a fire pit Tuesday night to ward off the chilly temperatures. Designer Paige Hemmis was seen roasting marshmallows at the pit.
