On The Map with Avi Lewis: Ayaan Hirsi Ali & Islamophobia

Avi's encounter with controversial author, politician and born-again America-booster, Ayaan Hirsi Ali who says there's no such thing as Islamophobia. Her extraordinary life story often eclipses the powerful role she is playing in the conversation about Islam and terrorism. As she herself said recently, "Right now the media are still lapping it up: a black woman who criticizes Islam."

Complete video at: http://fora.tv/fora/showthread.php?t=1513

Somali-born author, feminist and former Dutch Parliament Member Ayaan Hirsi Ali discusses her disillusionment with the Islamic faith of her birth.

-----

Ayaan Hirsi Ali discusses "Is Islam Compatible with Liberal Democracy?" with Clive Crook at the 2007 Aspen Ideas Festival.

Some of the most inspired and provocative thinkers, writers, artists, business people, teachers and other leaders drawn from myriad fields and from across the country and around the world all gathered in a single place - to teach, speak, lead, question, and answer at the 2006 Aspen Ideas Festival. Throughout the week, they all interacted with an audience of thoughtful people who stepped back from their day-to-day routines to delve deeply into a world of ideas, thought, and discussion.

Ayaan Hirsi Ali is an outspoken defender of women's rights in Islamic societies. Ms. Hirsi Ali was born in Mogadishu, Somalia. She escaped an arranged marriage by immigrating to the Netherlands in 1992, and served as a member of the Dutch parliament from 2003 to 2006.

In parliament, she worked on furthering the integration of non-Western immigrants into Dutch society, and on defending the rights of women in Dutch muslim society. In 2004, together with director Theo van Gogh, she made Submission, a film about the oppression of women in conservative Islamic cultures. Ms. Hirsi Ali is currently a Resident Fellow at the American Enterprise Institute.

Clive Crook is a senior editor of The Atlantic and chief Washington commentator of The Financial Times. In addition, he writes a column for National Journal and serves as chief editorial adviser to David Bradley, the chairman of Atlantic Media Group. He was formerly on the staff of The Economist, latterly from 1993 to 2005 as deputy editor. A graduate of Oxford and the London School of Economics, he has served as a consultant to The World Bank and worked as an official in the British Treasury. He lives in Washington, DC.

Dutch parliamentarian Ayaan Hirsi Ali, a native of Somalia who emigrated to The Netherlands in the early 1990s, is no stranger to controversy among her fellow Muslims. Living in the West, she felt free to publicly criticize Islam's treatment of women.

But that freedom came at a price. In 2004, a short film Ali scripted called Submission was shown on Dutch television. In the film, naked women veiled with see-through shrouds painted with verses of the Quran kneel in prayer, telling their stories as if they are speaking to Allah.

The film's co-writer and director Theo Van Gogh was later stabbed to death by a Muslim radical. A letter pinned to the body with a dagger threatened Ali's life. Since then, she has been under the constant protection of body guards.

The danger hasn't stopped her from remaining outspoken about her beliefs. Ali calls her new collection of essays, The Caged Virgin, an "Emancipation Proclamation" for women and Islam.

Ayaan Hirsi Ali- The Truth pt. 3-4

The true story of Ayaan Hirsi Ali.
Ayaan Hirst Ali gained worldwide fame with her very controversial views on the religion of Islam and Muslims. She repeatedly described Islam as a backward and dangerous religion. After becoming a Dutch MP a Dutch television show exposed the real past of Ayaan Hirsi Ali. This report reports on Ayaan's childhood, her life in Kenya, her arrival in the Netherlands as well as her political career.
Ayaan's family and close friends are interviewed and a different version of Ayaan's life emerges.
This report ended Ayaan's political career, as it proves that she has lied about almost every aspect of her past while applying for asylum and Dutch citizenship. She, as a result, had to leave Netherlands and has moved to the USA.
It is for the viewer to decide if Ayaan Hirsi Ali has any integrity left.

Ayaan Hirsi Ali and the Problem with Censorship

www.PfanderFilms.com

It is sad that Muslims on YouTube do not want the problem verses in the Qur'an to be read, shown, or critiqued in public. A case in point is the enormous anger against the Somali activist and former Muslim, Ayaan Hirsi Ali, and her movie 'Submission'. It is important that we on Youtube stand against this attempt to censure Ms. Ali, since everything which is religious, be it a book, a person, or an organization, must be open to criticism and public debate. We must never respond with violence, as was done by a Muslim against the director of 'Submission', and we must stand resolutely against those Muslims who try to censure anyone who might criticize their Qur'an or their prophet, such as was attempted here in the UK in Feb. of 2006 with the 'Incitement to Religious Hatred' law, a law which only the Muslims wanted, and was fortunately defeated...by ONE vote. If a religion is true, it must be strong enough to take on the challenges and criticisms foisted against it. Christianity has certainly proved itself to stand against criticism from all quarters...it seems Islam has yet to prove itself in this category.
