	Kasey Cisyk - You Light Up My Life (Original Soundtrack) The film "You Light Up My Life" was released 30 years ago, August 31, 1977. Contrary to what many people believe, the motion picture "You Light Up My Life" was not rushed into production to promote the Debby Boone record. In fact, the song had already been recorded by a 24-year-old sessions singer named Kacey Cisyk whose version appears in the film and on the original soundtrack album. In the film, the song is lip-synched by 26-year-old Didi Conn, who appeared a year later in "Grease" as Frenchie. Born Kvitka Cisyk, the daughter of Ukranian immigrants, (Kvita is Ukranian for "flower"), she was called Kasey (from her inititals K.C.) by friends who couldn't pronounce her real name. Ms. Cisyk, who received some publicity after Debby Boone had a hit with You Light Up My Life, had not thought much of the song and didn't see any future in it. She didn't wish to be associated with it as a recording artist. Several other artists were approached to record the song, (most notably, Karen Carpenter), all of whom turned it down. Joe Brooks (the composer) combed the Warner Bros. catalog for a sound-alike singer. Finally, producer Mike Curb offered the song to Debby Boone, the daughter of his good friend, Pat Boone. Her version, released to coincide with the release of the film, rapidly climbed up the charts. In an attempt to capitalize on the success of Debby Boone's record, Arista Records then released Cisyk's version as a single, but it went nowhere. Her name was not even listed on the record, but instead was replaced by the phrase "Original Soundtrack." Cisyk was a trained opera singer, which might have had something to do with her initial hesitation of being associated with the song. She later had success with two albums of Ukranian folk songs, which she recorded under her Ukranian name, Kvita Cisyk. She died of breast cancer in 1998 at the age of 45. Joe Brooks, who composed You Light Up My Life, was awarded the Oscar for Best Original Song (1977) at the 50th Academy Awards. View Video

	Pat Boone - Aint That A Shame As an alternative to emerging rock and roll in the fifties, Pat Boone made his way onto the scene with his handsome, boy-next-door looks and Christian morals. Born in Jacksonville, Florida in June of 1934, Boone began his singing career while still a young teenager by winning an amateur talent show, which led to numerous appearances and some recording in Nashville. After signing with Dot Records, Boone launched his career and in terms of popularity, ended up just shy of Elvis Presley. He went on to record numerous hits and author many books, as well as hosting his own variety series and eventually signing an acting contract with 20th Century Fox. Boone married Shirley Foley, daughter of country star Red Foley, while still in school and fathered four daughters, one of which took after her father and made her own singing career. Debby Boone became popular in the late 1970s for her hit song You Light Up My Life, and this seemed to revive her father's career, also. He tried his hand at producing and starring in a Christmas special and hosting a couple of variety chat shows for The Nashville Network. Pat's cover of Fat's DOmino's Aint That A Shame is one of the best he ever did in my opinion. It was rated #12 for the year 1955. View Video

	You Light up my life This is a scene from the movie "You Light Up My Life". Yes there was a movie ... look it up on IMDB. It is a very powerful scene and complementsd the song well. The song was actually recorded by session singer, Kacey Cisyk . Didi Conn (Yes she is Frenchie from Grease), acted in the movie and lip synched the song. Contrary to popular belief, Debby Boone did not perform the song first. She did it after this movie was made. In this scene, the woman shows up to try out for an acting part. They find out she is a singer so they ask her to sing as part of the tryout. She had written "You light up my life" and had had some arrangements made for it but she had only ever sung it on her guitar. She ends up giving the arrangements to the conducter and spontaneaously sings in front of an entire orchestra. The scene is quite moving and gets to me every time I see it. I love when the strings kick in. Anyway I wanted all of you to experience it as well. Enjoy! View Video
