DH Lawrence The Rainbow 1: Ghosts

From the BBC TV adaptation of DH Lawrence's "The Rainbow" (1988), starring the exquisite Imogen Stubbs. (The Ken Russell version was not really well received and does not capture the work like this beautiful BBC adaptation does.) These are beginning scenes from Episode 1, "Ghosts". Note: A couple of key segments are missing, such as a church scene and the remainder of the scene in which Ursula Brangwen meets Anton Skrebensky. Most of the sequencing is preserved, however. Please pardon sound quality. This was videotaped many years ago. I do not have a DVD copy or VHS copy of "The Rainbow" in its entirety, just a collection of most of the scenes--perhaps 90%. I will post what I can. In the meantime, if anyone out there knows where we can find this excellent series in its entirety on DVD, please feel free to post the info for us. Some of us Youtubers are interested. Cheers.

Enjoy. Ursula is a force of nature: fiercely sensitive, courageous and tender. Imogen Stubbs offers a profoundly moving performance...

Quote from this segment: "It matters whether you have courage or not." (Ursula Brangwen)

First of nine postings of Rainbow highlights.

DH Lawrence The Rainbow 2: Ghosts

The second set of scenes from episode one, "Ghosts", of the BBC TV adaptation of "The Rainbow" (1988). Not the complete episode in sequence, but rather most of it: I offer here the footage I do have of it spliced together. The vast majority of the sequencing is preserved. Starring the exquisite Imogen Stubbs, this beautiful adaptation of "The Rainbow" captures the spirit of the novel very well, some say much better than does the Ken Russell version, a film that was not really well received and which was released at around the same time. (But to each his own.) Please pardon sound quality. This was videotaped many years ago. DH Lawrence The Rainbow 3: The Widening Circle

The third set of scenes from the excellent BBC TV adaptation of "The Rainbow" (1988) comprises segments from episode 2, "The Widening Circle". Anton has gone. Ursula has entered the "Man's World" and has gained perspective on her past, while experiencing both love for her teacher and fascination with a quieter man. Not the complete episode in sequence, but rather most of it: I offer here the footage I do have of it spliced together. The sequencing is preserved.

DH Lawrence - The Rainbow: "Tame people are spiteful..."

The exquisite Imogen Stubbs is the screen's best Ursula Brangwen, heroine of D.H. Lawrence's novel of self-transformation, "The Rainbow". This scene, in which Ursula and her sister Gudrun discuss love, pain and wildness, shows the fierce sensitivity Imogen brought to this fine 1988 BBC production.

The exquisite Imogen Stubbs, the best Ursula Brangwen, because of her fierce sensitivity and thoughtfulness. Here she muses on the harmonious existence of David and his prim sister.

Jane Austen Ladies: "Maneater"

Hurray! The final exams are *finally* over! Today I made a video about Jane Austen's women as, um, maneaters (LOL). Please don't hate me for it, I just made this for fun XD After all, who can blame these women for taking some interest in JA's irresistible men?

I added the heroines as well as the other female characters that are seldom mentioned (e.g. Isabella Thorpe, Maria Bertram, Mary Crawford, Lydia Bennet). Thank you so much for your appreciation! It's one of my most popular vids!

I am still very interested in finding this series on DVD for purchase but could not find it anywhere, including BBC Worldwide. If anyone knows how to obtain it, please let us know, thanks.
