This is what I consider the most accurate movie based on the original Brothers Grimm story. "The fairy tale is over" head liner says it all. There are no little animals that sing and dance, there is no dwarfs that whistle while they work. No this story delves much deeper then any classic Disney movie.
After her mother is killed in a carriage accident Lillian's father performs a c-section to save their unborn daughter. The story picks up years later when Lady Claudia is brought to the castle and introduced to young Lilli as her new stepmother. Claudia is obsessed with her husbands attention and as Lilli grows up growing more and more beautiful as her mother was. Claudia deliberately keeps her dressed in clothes more suited to a little girl. She also resents her stepdaughter blaming the girl for the stillborn death of her baby boy. Even when Lilli tries again and again to make things right the step mother refuses. She is far too gone, into the enchanted spell of her magic mirror. Wishing only to kill Lilli, and sending her mute brother to take the girl into the woods and there he would kill her. The best scene to me is the final confrontation where snow white is not saved by a handsome prince oh no she has to save herself. Again this movie is everything that I had loved in reading the original brothers Grimm before they were saturated with sweetness and light. To those who don't know what I mean, let me share a few things, Cinderella's stepsisters had their eyes pecked out by birds and cut off their heels to put on the slipper. Now with that being said.. enjoy my dears. :grin:
