Becoming British (extract) - (c)NFTS 2007
Making this film proved to be an insightful and fascinating journey for its director Haryun Kim, a Korean filmmaker living in London. It explores the lives of characters from different parts of the world who have decided to make Britain their home. Haryun, who has also been considering taking steps towards becoming a British citizen, investigates why these characters decided to come to Britain, how they live their day-to-day lives within British society and what it means for them to become fully-fledged citizens, a process that culminates in a bizarre, ritualistic ceremony that no British citizen-by-birth would ever have to experience.
