KBGT News Part Six (of Seven) April 1994
I honestly have no idea how or why Tracy put up with us, she was very obviously our Jane Curtin. Of course, I guess you need to be at least 30 to know who Jane Curtin was or why this comment is relevant. She was clearly too intelligent to be our Carol Cleveland--and if you understand the relevance of *that* comment you must be reading this from the bunkers of a high school drama club somewhere.
And so it was that Tracy's idea was to do the "Arts Roundup" section of the broadcast, coming up with some fantastic stuff in the process. It was her status as resident theater tech guru that got us onto the stage in the first place, and it was her idea to set up the lights for the "Blood Wedding" sequence and do up the rope for the "Blood Stone" clip. Had the sound gear not crapped out you would have seen a lot more of her work in the failed "Dave is Dead" sequence earlier on.
The best part of Tracy's segment is that everything was real. ESU *did* put on a production of Blood Wedding and it was awful. Someone in our Creative Writing class had written a horror story so unintentionally awful that it had S-Loc, a guy who had gotten me into H.P. Lovecraft, collapsed on the floor in tears.
Then, of course, was the A.C.I.D. project: our attempt as seventeen year old dadaists to assemble a Fillmore-style light show/sculpture using assorted projectors and old 16mm football footage. Hampered repeatedly by everything from Art IV students stealing our stuff to the art teacher deciding on a whim each day as to whether or not we were even in her class, we were aggravated and it showed. Especially when one of the twarps responsible for our misery came roaming out to see of the video camera was bolted to anything. With answers ranging from impending drug deals to flag burning, here are two kids just beginning to sense that the state of Kansas might have to be vapourised if humankind is ever going to advance past stone knives and bearskins.
If nothing else, you can watch Steve beat the crap out of Martin with the power of his scenery chewing.
