I met Dawn Stern In the year 1981 at A youth Dance held at Scott AFB, Il at the on base youth center.
I was 17 and she was 16 and All I can remember about that night was that I got just one dance with the most beatiful girl to date I ever saw.
I remember that she was with someone,And he was really really short... And I also remember that she asked me later on at the dance If I had a car with a stick shift? Gawd, to this day I wish I had a car with a stick shift! :)
I saw her one more time a couple of months later at the store where she worked, I believe it was the "Record Bar" at the St Clair square Mall. I had went in to see if she remembered me, but as I feared she didnt, when she asked me if she could help me find something, my mind went blank! I couldnt think of a single tape! But thank god there was a huge poster of Billy squire right behind her, So Slapping myself mentally as hard as i could I asked for Billy Squire! I still have that tape! And have yet to listen to it! Billy Squire...Geesh!
That Was the last time I ever saw Dawn Stern...Until...some 11 years later while flipping through the channels, I see her again on star search.I was Blown away, So much so that I wrote her a letter...why I dont know, maybe it was a final reach to capture what my Shyness lost me 11 years earlier...In any case, she did write me back with a unaddressed envelope...Great going Rick Hayes, your officially a stalker now! :)
I live In Houston Texas now, have been here since 1996. I was Driving home tonight from a Bowhunting Trip, when I heard this song on the Radio, It was by some British Artist...Any way the Song is called "Your Beatiful" And the words in that song as I was driving just connected with my story with you. Its about this guy who is in a crowded subway, and he sees this beatiful woman, who is with someone, she smiles at him, and he smiles back...In those few seconds, they caught a moment in time. He realizes that as she walks by that he will never see her again...that was it...As silly as it sounds I can relate to that song!
Dawn, If you can remember into yesteryear of a tall lankety boy whom you shared the honor of a dance with at the Scott AFB Youth center,and you would like to say hi, then send me a quick note to rmhayes@ems.jsc.nasa.gov...If not, you take care and thank you for a beatiful memory.
And No...I am not some wierdo stalker who has seen you on Tv!
