Earned a bachelor's degree from the University of South Carolina in 1989. Grew up in Greenwich, Connecticut, where she attended Greenwich High School and freelanced for the local paper. Has one brother named Alan. Her mother is Danish and father is Polish. Her parents came to the U.S. after World War II.
