Younger sister of Emma Thompson. Consequently she is the sister-in-law of Greg Wise, and the former sister-in-law of Kenneth Branagh. Daughter of stage director Eric Thompson and Phyllida Law. Has two sons: Ernie James (b. 1997) and Walter Eric (b. 2000). She was awarded the 1999 Laurence Olivier Theatre Award for Best Actress in a Musical for her performance in "Into the Woods". Ex-sister-in-law of Kenneth Branagh.
