Is half Mexican. Lived in Mexico as a child. Her real life partner is Alex Garland the writer who wrote the novel on which The Beach (2000/I) is based, and the screenplay for 28 Days Later... (2002). She collaborated on a short film with actor Cillian Murphy who has starred as her love interest in "The Way We Live Now" (2001) (mini) and the independent film, _Sunburn (1999/I)_.
